How can HA injections provide hydrated skin?
Hyaluronic acid, HA, is a water-loving molecule that provides hydration underneath the skin’s surface to the structure between the skin cells. What is Hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies. It is actually a polysaccharide, a sugar molecule, that forms long chains that quickly form and degrade, in one to two days. The hyaluronic acid keeps our body tissues – not least our skin – hydrated, flexible, and soft.
When non-stabilized hyaluronic has been injected into the skin, scientists have noticed that it quickly disappears. When stabilized hyaluronic acid is injected it stays in the skin for much longer and gives a much more long-lasting effect.12
When hyaluronic acid is stabilized, a specific technology is used to create cross-links between the long hyaluronic acid molecule chains. This way, the hyaluronic acid molecules form a network that the body’s own enzymes can’t break down as quickly as non-stabilized hyaluronic acid. Still, the molecule is very close to natural hyaluronic acid in the body.
